Advantage West Midlands forced to scale back funding

The development agency was forced to axe funding for 122 schemes which had been due to receive support, but officials have managed to help 48 of these find funds from other sources. It leaves 65 which have been mothballed as a result of funding cuts.

They include Heartlands Medipark, a planned business and science park on the former playing fields next to Heartlands Hospital in Bordesley Green.

This would have provided opportunities for medical companies to move there to take advantage of the research facilities.

Other schemes affected include a planned training facility at Birmingham Airport to be run by the Solihull College.

Plans to refurbish Newman Brothers Coffin Furniture Factory in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter have also been hit.
