A BIRMINGHAM care worker has been crowned Carer of the Year at a national ceremony.

Pat Cambridge works at Madeleine House care home in Manor Road, Stechford, where colleagues and residents nominated her for the Anchor Trust’s Care Services Awards.

She said: “I love my job and do the best I can to make sure our residents feel like the most important people in the world. I try to help them anyway I can from sorting out hospital appointments through to arranging optician prescriptions.

“I’m so proud to have won this award which is testimony to the great work and team spirit at Madeleine House.”

The 54-year-old impressed judges, who commended her passion, pride and professionalism

One of the panellists, Des Kelly, executive director of the National Care Forum, said: “The impact Pat has on the lives of colleagues and residents at Madeleine House shines through.

“It’s clear she puts a lot of energy into the role and has developed very strong relationships with those in her care.”

“In addition she is always prepared to go out of her way, with nothing being too much trouble – she sets an example for us all.”

She was presented with the award by broadcaster Angela Rippon, who added: “I am delighted to present these awards to outstanding members of staff who, like Pat, help keep our loved ones cared-for and safe.

“All Anchor staff fulfil an enormously important role in society. They have earned our trust through their dedication, commitment and high levels of professionalism.”

There were 366 nominations in the two regional finals for Anchor Trust’s Care Services Awards.
