Hopwood cabbie murder: Police reveal what killed father of three

A BIRMINGHAM private hire driver suffered horrific stab wounds less than two hours after he kissed his young children goodnight for the final time, police have revealed.

Dad-of-three Mohammed Arshad died in Selly Oak Hospital after being found fatally injured in Wast Hills Lane, Hopwood, on the Birmingham Worcestershire border, on Wednesday night.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the 36 year-old, from Selly Oak, died as a result of stab wounds to the head.

On the night he was murdered, it emerged that he tucked his sons, aged eight, six and three, into bed before saying goodbye to his wife and leaving for work at about 7.15pm.

Brother-in-law, Mohammed Sheraz Hussain, said: “We won’t rest in peace until his killer is caught.

“We urge anyone who has any information about who might have done this or knows anything that could help the investigation to contact the police.”

On Thursday detectives sealed off the area where Mr Arshad was found and an area in Shannon Road, Kings Norton, where his blue Ford Galaxy taxi was found.

Anyone in that area between 8.30pm and 9pm on Wednesday – particularly if they saw a taxi of that description during the evening – is asked to call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000.
