Mr Wiseman, who was presented with a lifetime achievement award by Birmingham City last season, was affectionately known as “Mr Blues”.

The club is planning a special tribute to Mr Wiseman’s at the club’s opening Premier League home game against Portsmouth on Wednesday night.

Mr Wiseman had been a board member of the club since 1956. And his father, David “Curley” Wiseman also had a long association with the club.

But he is perhaps best known for his pivotal role in saving the Blues from administration in 1992.

Today, former manager Terry Cooper, who worked closely with Mr Wiseman during those dark days, paid tribute to his life.

He said: “There is no doubt in my mind that he was integral in saving Birmingham City from disaster back then.

“I am so sad that he has passed away and don’t think we will see the likes of him again.
