Dudley teacher in swearing row told he can teach again

Mr Glover struggled to contain his emotions as he told the panel: “I’m on oath and I can’t say that I did something that I didn’t do. I was accused of swearing and I did not do that, however I want to say to you that I absolutely agree that swearing in front of students or to students is totally unacceptable by a teacher and that any coercion of school pupils is utterly unacceptable.

“If I had done what I have been accused of I would have admitted it because I’m an honest, good person.

“I have tried to show you that I accept the authority of the council and wish to come back to the profession. I am fit and able to uphold all the rules and regulations as I always have.”

Gail Mortimer, GTC teacher member, said the panel was impressed by Mr Glover’s voluntary and community projects and was “satisfied” he had learned from the events.

She added: “In the light of the evidence Mr Glover presented to us in the hearing, we do not consider that he poses any risk to pupils or the public, or to the reputation of the profession in the future if his eligibility for registration as a teacher is now restored.

“In conclusion, it is therefore our decision that Mr Glover’s eligibility to be registered with the GTC be restored.”

Mr Glover has since started a new life in London, where he is training to become a counsellor for ChildLine and has applied to become a primary school governor.
