Strangled girl 'might have been sexually assaulted'
Ms Kirk revealed at the press conference that Walker had a history of a domestic incident involving his wife of three years who he was currently in the process of divorcing.
She said: “He was cautioned for that offence and we have no other criminal records for him.”
Ms Kirk they were making inquiries, with help from West Midlands Police, to find other previous partners of Walker. They had also seized the family computer.
Ms Kirk said: “Stacey was strangled with a ligature of similar fabric to that which Mr Walker used to hang himself,” she said.
“We can’t tell how far apart they died. There were no signs of disturbance or fighting in the truck.
“We’re building up an intelligence picture on him, but there doesn’t seem to be an awful lot. There’s no intelligence on the system relating to children.”
She said detectives were trying to piece together what happened in the run-up to the killing.
Walker and Stacey were thought to have arrived at the lay-by in Warmington just after 3.35pm on Friday after making deliveries to Spar stores across Norfolk.
She said the pair were spotted leaving the lorry to use a toilet at the services. They ate a meal of macaroni cheese and Stacey’s mother Roxanne last heard from Walker some time between 7.30pm and 8pm that night.
She said: “She trusted him and did not have any reason to think that he would ever cause any harm to her daughter.
“When he called her, he said he was about to go to bed and was expecting to leave in the early hours of Saturday to get back to the depot.
