Birmingham woman who caught Legionnaires at Pontin's dies

A BIRMINGHAM woman who became ill with Legionnaires’ disease following a visit to a Pontin’s holiday camp has died, it was revealed today.

The woman became ill when she returned to the West Midlands after staying at Pontin’s, in Blackpool, in July.

A spokesman for the Health Protection Agency (HPA) today confirmed that the woman, who has not been named, died at Selly Oak Hospital.

An investigation launched by HPA officials concluded that staff at the holiday park in, St Annes, took “all appropriate measures” to avoid the risk of infection.

“This is very sad for the woman’s family and our sympathies are with them at this time,” an HPA spokesman said.
