Boy, 11, seriously injured in Aldridge road accident

A CHILD was today seriously ill in hospital after being in collision with a car in Aldridge.

The incident occurred on Leighswood Road, Aldridge, at around 3.45pm yesterday.

A rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were dispatched to the scene and police closed off the road while the youngster received treatment from paramedics.

The 11-year-old boy remains in a serious, but not life threatening, condition in Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was airlifted following the collision.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a child and a car that had been in a collision.

“The boy, believed to be 11 years old, suffered serious head injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene.

“He was immobilised using a spinal board and neck collar and airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and emergency treatment.

“The hospital had been pre-alerted to the boy’s arrival and serious injuries.

“No other person was injured in the crash.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said today the child’s condition was not life threatening and investigations into the collision were ongoing.
