POLICE today urged witnesses to help bring to justice the killer of a peacemaker who died more than five months after being attacked trying to break up a brawl.

David Weaver, aged 44, suffered major head injuries in the attack in Marsh Hill, Stockland Green, last November.

Despite brain surgery, the family man never recovered and died in hospital on April 26.

While police believe people know who is responsible, they have not been able to charge anyone because key witnesses have been reluctant to come forward.

David’s heartbroken sisters, Carol Reilly, 48, and 51-year-old Tina Weaver and brother Alan Weaver, 52, were today due to make an appeal to the public to name the killer and ease their pain.

Mr Weaver had been a guest at a function organised in memory of murder victim Lee Wellard at The Hare and Hounds pub.

Following the event, fighting broke out and spilled out into the street, involving up to 20 people.

Mr Weaver, from Erdington, was trying to act as peacemaker when he was chased across the street and attacked. The attack continued as he lay defenceless on the ground.
