Disabled Birmingham man tarred and feathered in attack

Alan Topping

A DISABLED man who claimed he was tarred and feathered on a Birmingham street in an apparent vigilante attack today relived his alleged ordeal.

Alan Topping said he was bundled in to the back of a van and beaten unconscious before being tied half-naked to a tree during an hour-long ordeal.

The 26-year-old said he was finally left outside a pub, covered in tar and feathers and left with a sign around his neck which read: “I rob old people’s homes for drug money”.

Mr Topping strongly denies the burglary allegations.

It was alleged the attack was meted out in retribution for a burglary in the Woodgate Valley area a week before.

A police spokesman said a burglary was being investigated but nobody had been arrested.

Mr Topping said he was in a benefits office at the time of the break-in, which police said they were still investigating.

“I keep having flashbacks all the time,” he said.
