Chance for say over plans for Olympic-size swimming pool in Birmingham

THE date for a public meeting to discuss plans for Birmingham’s new £58 million Olympic-size swimming pool has been set for later this month.

The meeting, organised by the city council’s planning committee ahead of the application going before them at the end of this month, will be held on October 19, at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, at the Council House.

The £58 million Birmingham Aquatics and Leisure Centre will have a 50m pool and will be on land next to the NIA, close to Nelson Primary School, Vincent Street, Ladywood.

In the last few months concerns have surfaced about many aspects of the proposal.

Councillors are unhappy about the location, car park capacity and the impact on wildlife.

Labour members of the committee complained that a proper consultation of residents who lived near the site had not taken place. There were also traffic and parking concerns, given its close proximity to the NIA.
