Aston Villa star Isaiah Osbourne is arrested

ASTON Villa star Isaiah Osbourne has been arrested by police investigating an allegation that a second-hand car buyer was robbed.

Officers detained the 21-year-old Birmingham-born midfielder at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Friday. Osbourne was held on suspicion of conspiracy to rob and questioned at Kings Heath police station before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

It is understood that the investigation centres around an allegation that a second-hand car buyer was robbed when he turned up to look at a vehicle. Sources told the Birmingham Mail that Osbourne was not involved in the robbery but was questioned because the vehicle was registered to him.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A 21-year-old man from Birmingham was arrested at Aston Villa’s training ground on October 2 on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

“The man has been released on bail while further inquiries take place.”

A spokesman for Aston Villa confirmed today they were aware of the alleged incident involving a 21-year-old Aston Villa player but refused to comment further pending the police inquiries.

Osbourne, who is 22 next month, came through youth ranks at Villa and made his first team debut under Martin O’Neill in October 2006 when he came on for Steven Davies against Fulham in the closing stages of the game.

He has seen his appearances limited to just 19 in claret and blue and spent a spell out on loan to Nottingham Forest for whom he played eight games last season.

He still has a year of his current three-and-a-half year deal left but has not featured at all this season after falling down the pecking order by the arrival of midfielders including James Milner and Steve Sidwell.

Osbourne is understood to earn around £4,000 a week and has played for England at youth level from under 16s to under 21s.
