Man in court charged with blackmail plots against Midland supermarkets

A MAN was appearing in court today charged with threatening to contaminate food in blackmail plots against supermarkets in Birmingham and the Black Country.

The 39-year-old, from Bilston, was due before Birmingham Magistrates accused of two separate extortion attempts seven years apart against Asda stores. The first was aimed at the Asda supermarket in Wednesbury Oak Road, Tipton, in 2001, and the second at the Asda store in Queslett Road, Great Barr, last year.
