Birmingham Santas charity run to raise cash for hospice and Mail trust

SANTAS have begun limbering up for a festive fun run in aid of a great Claus.
Hundreds of Santas will take to the streets for the 3k run in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice and the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust.
Smooth Radio presenters Carlos and Tammy Gooding helped launch the charity challenge in Brindleyplace by taking part in an exercise session.
Passers-by were treated to the rare sight of Santas on treadmills, exercise bikes and trampolines.
Drivetime DJ Tammy said: “Acorns is an incredible charity and it is important we do everything we can to support its great work.”
Carlos said: “It’s a fun way to help a great cause. Everybody can take part including nans and grandads.
“This is a great way of giving something back, especially to kids at Christmas.”
The pair were joined by representatives of Acorns, recruitment company Michael Page and staff at Birmingham-based insurance firm Legal and General, which is sponsoring the event for the third year running.
Acorns events manager Kerrie Davies said: “This year Acorns celebrates 21 years of care and support given to the region’s children who have life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families.
“Sadly the demand for our services grows daily and we hope the community will rally round, throw on their Santa suits and enjoy this great Christmas event for a local cause.”
For the first time, Acorns has joined forces with the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust, which provides grants to voluntary groups and charities across the city.
Trust fundraising manager Gordon Creese said: “It is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and raise money for worthwhile causes.”
