Hospital kitchen fire

FIVE fire crews were called out to Birmingham’s Royal Orthopaedic Hospital after a blaze broke out in the kitchen.

Crews from Northfield, Billesley, Highgate and Woodgate fire stations were called to the hospital on Bristol Road South, Northfield, at around 6.30pm yesterday.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, which started in the first floor kitchen area at the 150-bed hospital.

No one was injured and the kitchen and serving area sustained smoke damage in the incident.

A hospital spokesman said patients’ breakfasts were served today as normal.
