Birmingham University improves world ranking

BIRMINGHAM University has been ranked in the top 70 of the World’s universities.

The Selly Oak based institution is listed 66th in this year’s Times Higher Education QS World University Rankings – up from 76th last year.

It’s the tenth highest ranked university in the UK and second in the West Midlands behind the University of Warwick, based in Coventry, rated 58th.

Harvard University in the USA, was again ranked the top school followed by the University of Cambridge in second, Yale University in Conneticut, USA, third, and University College London which has risen from 7th to fourth. Now in its sixth year, the survey received a record level of responses from the academic community and employers.

A total of 9,386 academics took part this year while 3,281 employers got involved in the survey.

The rankings are based on data gathered from academic peer reviews, employer reviews, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, student faculty ratio and citations per faculty.
