Arsonists strike at derelict Darlaston factory

ARSONISTS struck at a derelict Midland factory leaving firefighters to tackle the blaze for nearly two hours.

Two crews and an aerial appliance battled with the fire on Stafford Road, Darlaston, which had spread to an asbestos roof.

The incident, which was reported at 6.45pm, yesterday, involved an internal office block and a brick and wooden construction of a single-storey derelict factory measuring approximately 40mx40m.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service confirmed it was arson and said: “The wooden part of the office block was totally destroyed by the fire equating to about three per-cent of the factory unit.”
