£500m Arena Central project facing a finish date of 2030

THE property market slump means that Birmingham’s £500 million Arena Central project might not be completed until 2030.

Developers behind the building scheme on the former Central Television studios site off Broad Street are asking the city council to agree a 10-year extension to the deadline for starting work.

If planners agree, Miller Developments and Bridgehouse Capital will be granted a breathing space until February 2020, by which time they must submit a reserved matters application setting out the fine detail and design of the 2.3 million sq ft mixed-use project consisting of the landmark 175m V Building, offices, apartments, bars and restaurants.

Arena Central might not be completed until 2030, the city council confirmed.
