Cannock factory blaze sees a busy bonfire night for crews

DOZENS of firefighters spent the night tackling a major blaze on a Cannock industrial estate.

Eight fire engines, plus two raised hydraulic platforms, were needed to contain the blaze in a two-storey factory unit on Wolverhampton Road, Longford.

Staffordshire Fire Service, which was alerted to the fire at 8.50pm, said no-one was injured. More than 20 firefighters remained on standby at the scene today.

By the time crews got a call to the single-storey site in Showell Road, Bushbury, at 10.20pm, flames were leaping high into the sky.

The extra hazard of an asbestos roof meant that members of the emergency services had to warn residents close-by to keep windows shut.
