City College boosted as Carole Tidball stays on as vice-principal

CITY College Birmingham has received a further boost with the announcement that one of the key people involved in its recovery is to stay on as vice-principal.

Carole Tidball was responsible for developing the action plan to improve the college’s Ofsted ranking after being brought in on a temporary basis to raise performance.

She brought about significant improvement in the quality of lessons, including a 14 per cent increase in the number of those judged good or better over a six-month period.

Her appointment completes the creation of City College’s new senior management team.

Fellow vice-principal Stuart Cutforth becomes principal in December – taking over from David Gibson CBE, who has been in the post on an interim basis.

Ms Tidball said: “We have been through a great deal of difficult change at the college but I’m confident we’re now looking ahead to a bright future, with financial stability and improved performance.”

Mr Gibson said she had also successfully managed major improvements in student achievement at two previous colleges.
