MORE than 70 schools and childcare providers in Birmingham have been labelled “outstanding” in the annual report of the Government’s chief inspector of schools Christine Gilbert.
The A-list covers 72 establishments that have all received an outstanding rating by education watchdog Ofsted during the past year.
There are 35 primary, secondary and special schools named in Birmingham and 37 early years providers, from individual childcare workers to nurseries.
They include Calthorpe School and Sports College in Highgate, one of three Birmingham special schools given an outstanding rating.
Calthorpe, which recently hosted a visit by Jane Joyner, Ofsted’s divisional manager for curriculum and dissemination, was described as an “outstanding, trail-blazing” school by inspectors.
The school provides education for two to 19-year-old pupils with severe, complex and profound learning difficulties from across the city.
, holds specialist status in sports, maths and computing, and modern foreign languages.
