THE chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover, David Smith, is to hold regular meetings with Business Secretary Lord Mandelson as a Deputy Chairman of a new “automotive council” designed to build strong links between carmakers and the Government.
One of the aims is to reassure foreign investors in the British motor industry, such as Jaguar owners Tata Group, that the Government is serious about backing the automotive sector.
Lord Mandelson announced the council’s creation as he spoke at the annual conference of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in London.
