Midland comedian Lenny Henry to join Birmingham's Walk of Stars

Lenny Henry

HE has been treading the boards as Shakespeare’s Othello, but now thousands of Brummies will be walking over Lenny Henry after he was added to the city’s Walk of Stars.

The Dudley-born comic will join a host of the West Midlands’ most famous sons and daughters on the Broad Street tribute.

He joins the likes of Julie Walters, Frank Skinner, , rocker Ozzy Osbourne and football heroes including Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown and Ray Graydon.

The proud 51-year-old said: “I am extremely honoured and humbled to accept my place on the Walk of Stars.

“My mom said ‘if you’re not careful in show business, they’ll walk all over you’ and she was absolutely right – but in a good way. Thank you Birmingham. I salute you.”

Lenny shot to fame in 1975 after winning TV talent show New Faces and soon became a household name thanks to his appearances on Tiswas and his own sketch shows.

Married to comedienne Dawn French, he has most recently won critical acclaim for the lead role in a production of Othello.

Lenny will receive his star on December 19 while he is in the city to headline the Rock With Laughter 09 show at the LG Arena.
