Derelict pub makes way for £100m housing regeneration scheme in Birmingham

A DERELICT city estate pub has been bulldozed as the council gears up for a massive £100 million housing regeneration scheme.

Demolition teams move in to tear down the former Lyndhurst Pub and Star Members Club in Erdington as a signal to residents that big changes are on the way.

Already 300 homes on the Lyndhurst estate have been bulldozed and there are plans to demolish two tower blocks in the months ahead.

All this will pave the way for 600 new homes on one of Birmingham’s most run down estates to be built over the next four years.

A new neighbourhood park with play facilities is also planned, alongside youth centre, a new health centre and improved access to rail network and public transport will also be provided.

City housing chief Councillor John Lines said: “The demolition of the Star Members club is another boost for residents on the estate and demonstrates  the Council’s commitment to the regeneration of the Lyndhurst estate and surrounding areas of Erdington.

“This area has long been recognised as a priority for the council and I’m delighted with this latest step to transform the Lyndhurst estate into a safe high quality neighbourhood for residents.”

Training and employment opportunities will be created as part of the Modern Apprenticeships  programme to help young people secure careers in construction as part of the PFI proposals.
