Subway workers parade naked through Birmingham City Centre

Subway workers get naked

SHOPPERS and workers got more than they bargained for when saucy Subway strippers paraded through Birmingham city centre.

Staff from Subway outlets across the Midlands bared all for the launch of the world’s first naked calendar from the US firm.

The men and women posed naked with only strategically-placed food facts to hide their modesty.

And they were keen to get their kit off for the launch in Birmingham, braving the cold to show off along Broad Street and into the Subway store in Broadway Plaza where lunchtime punters were left in shock and also admiration for their bravery.

But one Birmingham family are in for a real shock today. Mr May – also known as Frank Beckford from Edgbaston – said: “I haven’t told my family so they will be in for a shock when they see the paper.

“My mum will ring me and say Frank, what have you done and I will tell her it’s for charity. I haven’t told any of the family. But they will all get one for Christmas.”

The dad-of-one and grandfather of two, who owns five franchise Subway shops across Staffordshire, poses with a crab float, flippers and a snorkel mask with the headline: “Lost your shorts in the sea for the third bank holiday running? We’ve got a sub for that.”

He added: “I volunteered because it’s a good cause. I have never done anything like this before. I was probably more nervous than the others because we walked around bars where I go out which is strange. The launch was a lot of fun, probably more so than the photo shoot.”

Tim Price, 45, who runs a franchise in Halesowen with wife Sue, said: “None of my staff would do it so I had to lead by example. It has been good fun and all in a good cause.”

The calendars, which promote the chain’s healthy eating range and include vouchers, go on sale next week exclusively in Subway stores across the Midlands, priced at £2.

They are aiming to raise £20,000 for Heart Research UK.

Council worker Anthony Lester, 28, from Erdington, said: “That caught me off guard, it’s not what you expect to see at lunch. They are very brave, it’s absolutely freezing. But if it’s for charity I’ll buy one.”
