Probe into claims Tamworth teacher corrected A-level coursework of entire class

EVERY member of a Midland school English A level class has complained that a teacher corrected their coursework to boost the exam pass rate.

The students at Woodhouse High School, in Tamworth, Staffordshire, submitted their 2,000-word Shakespeare assignments earlier this month.

It is claimed that the teacher, who has not been identified, rewrote some of his pupils’ answers and forged their signatures so that they earned better marks.

The pupils complained to the headmaster that the work on the assignments was not their own. The teacher involved has been suspended while an exam board investigation is carried out.

The teenagers may have to rewrite their essays on a new topic while the investigation is completed this month.

Headteacher Jill Hislop said: “There has been an allegation of malpractice made by every member of the English group against one or more of their English teachers.

“This allegation is that the work submitted is not entirely that of the student and that in many cases the student’s signature was forged. We will do everything that we can to have the situation sorted out as quickly as possible.”

A spokesman for Staffordshire County Council said: “We are aware of the allegations and are advising the school accordingly. An investigation is underway.”
