THE Birmingham Mail has won a national award for ‘Best regional newspaper’ at the Plain English Campaign annual awards.
Comedian Lenny Henry presented the award at a star-studded ceremony in London.
The Mail beat rivals from across the country to clinch the accolade after judges commended it for its “clean, concise writing, its visually appealing layout and its use of good headlines”.
Dudley-born Lenny presented the award to outgoing Mail editor Steve Dyson and executive editor Stacey Barnfield.
Mr Dyson, who leaves the Birmingham Mail at the end of the year, said: “This is a tremendous tribute to all the staff at the paper.
“We strive to be concise and appealing to all, so to be recognised as the best regional newspaper at a time of such change in the industry just shows how hard-working and committed our staff are.”
New Birmingham Mail editor David Brookes said: “Well done to all involved. I’m looking forward to winning many more with the team in future years.”
