Cyclist trapped under bus in Birmingham city centre

A cyclist has been left in a critical condition after he was trapped under a bus in Birmingham city centre.

The collision happened at 6.10am on the roundabout outside the former headquarters of West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service at Lancaster Circus in Aston.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a cyclist trapped under a single decker ‘bendy’ bus.

“The HART team worked with firefighters to rescue the man from under the bus; the vehicle had to be raised to gain access.

“Unfortunately, the man had suffered multiple injuries.  His condition was stabilised before being taken on blue lights to City Hospital.  The doctor travelled with the ambulance crew.

“On arrival his condition was said to be critical.”
