Jailed TV presenter Ashley Blake's appeal is thrown out

JAILED TV presenter Ashley Blake has lost an appeal against his sentence for attacking a teenager.

The former BBC Midlands Today presenter had his challenge to his two-year prison sentence rejected by the Court of Appeal, it was revealed today.

Blake, 40, was jailed in September after being found guilty of hitting teenager Greg Jones in the face with a large wooden pole.

He was given a further six months for attempting to pervert the course of justice, to run concurrently with the two years.

A West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service spokesman today confirmed that Blake’s leave to appeal against his sentence had been rejected by the Court of Appeal in London.

The decision was made by a single judge, Mr Justice William Blair, at the beginning of November.

Blake’s legal team then had 14 days in which to appeal against that decision. After his legal representatives made no contact with the London court in that time, the former Watchdog presenter’s appeal was rejected formally last week.

Blake did not attend the Court of Appeal. It is understood he was informed of the appeal’s failure in a letter sent to his prison.

His two-year sentence will now remain in place. Under current sentencing laws, he is likely to serve half the sentence.
