Blow in fight to save Willenhall Leisure Centre

CALLS to save a threatened leisure centre have fallen on deaf ears.

Coun Mike Bird, Conservative leader of Walsall Council, told campaigners that Willenhall Leisure Centre was too expensive to keep afloat but invited them to make proposals to save it.

However, opposition councillors say attempts to challenge the plan, laid out in draft budget proposals, have been scuppered at meetings of the authority’s scrutiny panels.

The Bath Street centre faces closure as part of the council’s attempts to make savings of £11 million.
