Historic home of Aston Villa remembered
THE historic birthplace of Aston Villa Football Club was commemorated yesterday – as a church on the site where it was founded reopened.
The New Testament Church of God, in Lozells, paid tribute to the club at its celebrations to mark its £5.2 million revamp.
The building is inextricably linked to the famous claret and blue as members of the original church on site, Aston Villa Methodist Church, founded Aston Villa Football Club in 1874. The old building was demolished in August 2007.
A special Sunday service and concert will be held today.
