Wolverhampton brothers fined for burning caravans
TWO brothers have been hit with a £10,000 fine for illegally burning caravans they owned.
Carl Mitchell Nedic and Christopher Tony Nedic, both of South Fork, Holyhead Road, Kingswood, near Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to burning the mobile homes at their parents caravan park in Telford.
The pair set fire to the homes on August 7, sending black smoke billowing into the sky.
Telford Magistrates Court heard the pair did not hold an environmental licence to dispose of the homes at the Pool View Park, Buildwas.
A resident spotted the fire on August 7 and noticed the Nedics moving another mobile home into position ready to be burnt.
The resident notified the environment agency who sent officers to the caravan site to investigate.
They found the site of the fire was directly below a set of high voltage cables.
They were each fined £1,800 and ordered to pay costs of £3,326.86, along with a £15 victim surcharge.
Speaking after the case, Environment Agency officer Kevin Heede said: “Owners of mobile home parks have a responsibility to dispose of their waste correctly.
“We will prosecute offenders who illegally burn or dispose of their waste.”
