A MAN who died after being struck by a car in Perry Barr was today been named by police as Lozells resident Hamsa Musse.
The 24-year-old suffered multiple injuries and a heart attack in the incident involving a black Ford Ka at 10.30am on the busy A34 Birchfield Road, on Saturday.
He was taken to City Hospital in a critical condition, but died from his injuries at about noon.
A police spokesman issued an appeal for witnesses to the collision and said no one had been arrested.
Aston residents have reacted with shock to Mr Musse’s death. Speaking before the victim’s name was released, Delwar Hussain, 42, said: “No one is sure who it is that died and some people think he might not be from around here.
“But wherever he’s from it must be terrible for his family and I feel very sad for them.”
Taxi driver Bill Jackson said the road was notoriously dangerous and that young people were constantly taking risks trying to cross it.
He said: “I didn’t know what happened in this incident but I know from my own experience that people get impatient to cross the road and run out into the central reservation and leap over it.”
Traffic officers investigating the incident called for any witnesses, or anyone with information to ring 0845 113 5000 and ask for the Road Policing Unit at Nechells Green station.
