10cm of snow expected in Birmingham this week

SNOW is on its way to Birmingham, weather forecasters warned today.

It is likely to arrive tomorrow and Wednesday, with snow showers lingering over both days.
Chris Bulmer, at the MET office, said moderate weather warnings had been issued for most parts of the West Midlands, with snow likely to accumulate up to 10cm in some areas.
He said: “There is a moderate risk of snow through Tuesday and Wednesday due to a front moving up from the south. Once it hits colder air, it is likely to turn into snow and we expect the showers to linger over the two days.
“New Year’s Day is expected to remain bitterly cold but less likely to see any snowfall.”
This week’s top temperatures are expected to peak at three degrees centigrade and drop to below freezing at night-time in some parts of the region.
As well as snow, Birmingham can expect frost, fog and rain throughout the week.
Elsewhere in the UK, Scotland had a truly white Christmas – its first in five years.
Bookies will be forking out millions of pounds in Glasgow and Edinburgh, which were the favourites at 10/11 for some snow on Christmas Day.
But the heavy snowfall caused more problems on Scottish roads over the weekend, with dozens of motorists left stranded in freezing conditions and many lorries and cars jack-knifing on icy and slippery roads.
