Police hunt hit-and-run driver after accident in Smethwick

POLICE are today appealing for help to catch a driver who failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian on Christmas morning.

A 69-year-old man was left with serious injuries after the collision in Smethwick.

The unnamed man is still said to be in a critical condition in hospital, suffering from head and body injuries.

The accident took place at the junction of Rabone Lane and Soho Street at around 10.30am on Christmas Day.

Witnesses told police officers that a small white van hit the man as he was crossing the road. It is believed that the van was followed by a small blue car.

PC Ian Hand from Smethwick Police Station has today appealed for anyone who saw either the van or the blue car, or was in the area at the time to contact Smethwick Police Station Helpdesk on 0845 113 5000.
