Birmingham Indian restaurant Lasan into F Word semi finals.

A BIRMINGHAM restaurant has booked a seat in the semi-final of Gordon Ramsey’s televised search for the UK’s finest eatery.

Lasan, in the Jewellery Quarter, was crowned the UK’s top Indian diner in the Best Local Restaurant competition on Ramsey’s popular Channel 4 series The F Word a few weeks back.

The competition is split into nine food categories, but only the six highest scoring section winners will make it through to the semi-final and vie for a place in the grand final on January 7, next year.

And on this week’s show Lasan remained fifth on the leader board with only next week’s episode to go, guaranteeing head chef Aktar Islam and proprietor Jabbar Khan a place in the semi-finals.

Birmingham-born Aktar has said that winning the competition would be a major triumph for the city.

“This is a good opportunity to show the rest of the country the good food coming out of Birmingham,” he said.
