Paramedics go live on hi-tech radio system
Dec 30 2009 by Edward Chadwick, Birmingham Mail
A NEW digital radio system being used by paramedics across the West Midlands could save lives, health bosses say.
West Midlands Ambulance Service is the first trust in the country to move emergency transmissions on to the new Ambulance Radio Project.
The digital network replaces the 40-year-old analogue system which often left crews without coverage.
All handsets are be fitted with panic buttons and tracking devices which allow paramedics to alert the regional control room to assaults and can record evidence.
Managers say it will offer better communication and revolutionise the way the ambulance service operates.
