Robbers armed with baseball bats raid Meriden Co-op

MEN armed with baseball bats have robbed a supermarket in Meriden.

The incident happened at the Co-op on The Green at 7.30pm yesterday.

Two men, with their faces covered, walked into the shop and threatened staff, before forcing them into a rear office while they grabbed cigarettes from behind the counter.

Detective constable Andrew Hiles from Solihull CID said: "Thankfully no-one was hurt in this robbery, but the members of staff were very shaken by the incident and we are keen to catch these men.

"The area would have been relatively busy at around 7.30pm and we urge anyone who saw people acting suspiciously prior to the robbery, or the men leaving the shop, to contact us."

The two men are both white, aged in their 20s, and wearing dark clothing, with their faces covered with masks.

Anyone with information should call the robbery team at Chelmsley Wood police station on 0845 113 5000 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
