Walsall pensioner dragged to floor during daytime robbery
A 72-YEAR-OLD woman has been dragged to the floor as a man tried to steal her handbag in Walsall.
The pensioner was attacked as she got off the number 529 bus on Wolverhampton Road, at around 4.50pm on Tuesday when the attack happened.
The woman walked a short distance to her home, and was opening the front door when a man walked up behind her and tried to grab her bag.
The victim refused to let go, and the offender pulled her over and continued to drag the woman along the floor before he gave up and ran off in the direction of Alumwell.
The offender is known to have been standing a short distance from the bus stop when the victim got off the bus. Two other women also left the bus at the same time and would have walked past the man. Officers investigating the attempted robbery are keen to trace these two women, as they may be vital witnesses.
The man is described as white, aged about 20 years, around 5'9 tall, of slim build but toned, with a very smiley face. He was wearing a woolly hat and dark clothing.
Detective constable Matthew Tromans, from Walsall CID, said: "This is a terrible attack on a vulnerable and elderly woman, which has left the victim terrified to leave her home.
"The lady suffered nasty cuts to her arm and received hospital treatment following the incident.
"We are concerned by the nature of this robbery and urge anyone who saw what happened, in what is a busy area, to come forward. We would particularly like to hear from the two women who got off the bus at the same time as the victim, and could hold vital information about this man."
