A man was rescued by firefighters after a blaze at his home in the Elmcoft block of flats, in Windmill Lane, Smethwick

A MAN was rescued from his blazing care home flat today by firefighters in the Black Country.

Fire crews were called out to the man’s first floor accommodation in the 15-storey Elmcroft block of flats, in Windmill Lane, Smethwick, at 5.39am.

A fire service spokesman said: “One man was led to safety by fire service personnel. The ambulance service was also in attendance and he was treated at the scene.”
