Road closed in New Oscott for air ambulance to land

A BUSY Birmingham road was closed for the county air ambulance to land to tackle a medical emergency.

The helicopter from Cosford landed on a small piece of land just off the Chester Road in New Oscott in response to an emergency call yesterday afternoon.

Mike Duffy, of adjacent Marchmont Way, said: “I heard a loud whirring sound coming from outside. I looked out of the window and was surprised to see a helicopter descending on to the road. I thought I might have been seeing things as it’s a residential area there was nowhere obvious for it to land. Traffic got chaotic very quickly. It was a very peculiar sight.”

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said the Chester Road was closed for around 40 minutes.

“There was a medical emergency and the air ambulance was called to assist. One female patient was taken to hospital via land ambulance,” he said.
