Man denies killing friend in Handsworth street

A MAN has denied shooting a friend through the heart after they had driven to a street in Birmingham.

Aaron Josephs said someone else had pulled the trigger and he lied to police because he feared he would be killed.

Josephs, 22, of Danesbury Crescent, Kingstanding, has denied murdering student Dominique Grant, aged 20.

Rachael Brand, QC, prosecuting, told Birmingham Crown Court that Josephs, Mr Grant and another man had driven to Uplands Road, Handsworth, on April 19 last year. Shortly afterwards Mr Grant was found fatally injured.

She said Josephs and Mr Grant had been friends and the prosecution was unable to provide a motive for the killing.

Josephs said that in Uplands Road, there had been trouble between Mr Grant and two others. Later he had been in a taxi with a man and heard him admit the killing in a phone call.
