Birmingham Council House kitchens set for £1 million makeover

THE Birmingham Council House kitchens could get a £1 million makeover in an attempt to improve the quality of meals served to civic guests.
Council bosses are considering relocating the main kitchen area from the third floor to an area on the first floor next to the Edwardian Tea Room, where functions are often held.
Upgraded cooking facilities will improve the quality of menus and attract more customers, according to council Urban Design manager Steve Vickers.
VIP guests attending formal civic dinners in the Council House Banqueting Suite should also benefit.
When the work has been carried out, the council expects to increase use of the Edwardian Tea Room for dinners, banquets and receptions from the current average of less than one a week with a maximum capacity of 120 people to an average of three a week for 170 diners.
