African Caribbean community pulls together to aid Haiti quake victims

BIRMINGHAM’S African Caribbean community is joining forces to help the quake victims of Haiti face the difficult months ahead.

A dinner and concert at St George’s Community Hub in Great Hampton Row, Newtown, on Saturday

A film on the devastation of the island will be shown at the start of the evening.

There will be a licensed bar and full hot Caribbean buffet.

The Sylvester Brothers and singer Kesia will provide live music, along with dance groups. Birmingham-born musician Apache Indian has also pledged support. Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood is backing the event by offering a meal for two in the Houses of Parliament as a raffle prize.

Meanwhile, the Council of Black-Led Churches, which held a prayer vigil for the victims, is planning to hold a Birmingham Response concert in April at Symphony Hall. For details and tickets for the St George’s concert contact Suki on 0121 236 9177 or email sukidb@hotmail.com
