West Midlands Police step up patrols to beat car crime at Rubery's Great Park complex

POLICE have stepped up patrols at a shopping and entertainment complex in Birmingham in a fresh crackdown on thieves stealing from cars.

Officers based at Frankley, Northfield, Rednal, West Heath and Longbridge have pulled together the blitz following a spate of crime at Rubery’s Great Park.

Insp Simon Inglis, from Bournville Lane police, said: “We have made some significant arrests, but to truly reduce the chances of becoming a victim of this crime, I’d urge everyone to remember to remove their valuables from their vehicles.”

Operation Zao mirrors a similar crackdown in February 2009 which saw a 50 per cent reduction in offences.
