Bartley Green man owes life to smoke alarm

A PARTYGOER owes his life to a smoke alarm after he fell asleep preparing food after a night out.

Firefighters were called to a maisonette in Simcox Gardens, Bartley Green, shortly before 1am on Sunday where the man, in his twenties, had been cooking food on the stove.

He fell asleep and was overcome by smoke, but on hearing the alarm his neighbour contacted the emergency services, who had to force entry to save him.
