Dance festival launches in Birmingham

A CITY festival has literally been launched ... with an opening party on a canal boat.

The second International Dance Festival Birmingham kicked off in BrindleyPlace before it set sail on its 18-day voyage to Brewood and back.

Dancers from the group held a farewell performance before a breaking of the bottle was held to launch the vessel.

People will have the chance to follow the boat along its journey including, on April 24, when it hosts a performance in Wolverhampton before spending the day navigating 21 locks on the way to Brewood.

Dancers will hold a performance at Brewood and another at Wolverhampton before returning to Birmingham for another performance near the ICC on Saturday, May 8.
