Five held as dangerous dogs seized in Lozells and Handsworth

FIVE men have been arrested following swoops across Birmingham as part of an operation to tackle dangerous dogs.

Three Pit Bull-type dogs, suspected of being banned breeds, were seized in the raids in Lozells and East Handsworth areas.

Police said three of the men were arrested on suspicion of owning dangerous dogs and released on bail pending further inquiries.

Two others were charged with possession of cannabis and stolen goods after drugs and property were recovered in the operation launched on April 16 following intelligence from the community.

The dogs are currently being looked after by the RSPCA.

Sgt Jill Hughes said: “The dogs have been seized as we believe them to be a breed banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.”

West Midlands Police last year seized 160 dangerous dogs from the region.
