Two men cheat death after paraglider gets caught in overhead electricity cables

TWO men cheated death after the motorised paraglider they were flying in hurtled into overhead electricity cables.

The glider struck and got tangled up in power wires over a field in Grimley Lane, Finstall, near Bromsgrove in Worcestershire.

Midlands Air Ambulance paramedics treat two men whose paraglider collided with electricity cables above a field in Finstall, Worcestershire.

One man, in his 30s, broke his leg and sustained neck injuries and was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital.

The second man, also in his 30s, was less severely hurt and was taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for chest and back pains.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews at the scene said both men had been extremely lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.

“It’s not clear why the parachute, which has a propeller at the back, came down where it did.”

One of the casualties was able to drag himself out of his harnass while his campanion was helped out of his seating by a witness to the accident shortly after 8pm on Wednesday (21).
