Prince of Wales backs Rookery House restoration campaign

THE campaign to save one of Birmingham’s decaying architectural gems has won the royal seal of approval.
Prince Charles’s Regeneration Trust is to talk to the city council about a long-awaited £1.5 million scheme to restore Rookery House in Erdington.
Confirmation of the Prince’s interest comes shortly after the council announced an emergency £300,000 package to cure dry rot in the boarded-up building.
Cabinet leisure, sport and culture member Martin Mullaney said the chances of bringing the 36-room building in Rookery Park back into permanent public use were good.
Some of the cash from the sale of a nearby former council transportation depot will be earmarked to pay for further renovation, he confirmed.
